Spring is on it’s way!

Have you spotted the first blossom and daffodils yet?  There’s something very uplifting on a cold or wet morning to spot these bright colours as they start to appear!  After the recent stormy weather we are certainly looking forward to getting out in the community garden and getting planting.

In this months newsletter we look back at February’s highlights and also look forward to what’s on in March.  There’s lots to enjoy both outdoors and inside the building this month.

February Highlights

Starting Tuesday 15th March – New Gardening Drop-in Season
The garden drop-in begins a new season starting Tuesday 15th March between 2pm and 3pm.  Come and visit us and see how you can get involved. More information is shown in the What’s On section below.

Community Fridge & Cupboard – Awarded 5 Stars!

Following a surprise inspection in February we are so pleased to announce that environmental health have awarded us a five star rating for food hygiene at the Community Fridge.  Congratulations to Katie and the fantastic bank of volunteers whose commitment to excellent hygiene standards makes this a reliable place to pick up fresh and frozen food, preventing food waste and helping the bank balance.

Youth Centre News:
As the youth centre building starts to take shape, with new windows and kitchen being installed, we are getting read to host young people from across the area!  Our Youth Worker lead, Tracy, is also celebrating about our growing team of five volunteers.  None of the support for young people and inspiring activities would be possible without their help!   We are still seeking an Assistant Youth Worker to lead aspects of this work.  If you are Level 2 Qualified and interested in working in a supportive and dynamic team, please contact Tracy for an informal discussion: [email protected]

New Community Orchard

Although it rained the planting of the new Incredible Edible Orchard’ outside the Community Centre was a real community event!  Thank you to everyone who came along to help with planting the fruit trees, which included eating and cooking apples, plums, cherries and damsons.
It was an amazing achievement by everyone!  It will take a while for the trees to become established and produce a good crop of fruit, so getting children and young people involved today was brilliant, as they are the ones who will get to see the trees through to maturity!

Special thanks to Cllr Catherine Powell for arranging the event and VIVID and Farnham Town Council for their support.
