The Lions Club of Fleet has been helping the less privileged in Fleet
and Church Crookham for 50 years. We are a “Charitable
Incorporated Organisation” who carry out various community service activities. We organise
fundraising events such as the Firework Fiesta and Beerfest each year. Our Santa Sleigh raises
lots of young smiles as well as public donations.
We have organised screening sessions for prostate cancer since 2016. Covid prompted us to help
at the vaccination centres and we also began recycling laptops for home-schooling children. Now
we often provide them for Ukrainian refugees. Rocketing fuel bills encouraged us to start a Fuel
Project. People donate their annual Winter Fuel Allowances to us and then we find and help
people who are struggling to pay their fuel bills. At Christmas time we purchase food items to
make up parcels for those who need a little more help and we organise a lovely carol concert for
Fleet’s older or more vulnerable.
Together with other local Lions Clubs we support the Lions’ Community Store where household
goods and furniture are recycled to those local people who really need it. The Clubs organise and
run our Lions Funfest which is a fun packed day for people with disabilities, their families and
helpers. We hire in bouncy castles, performers and activities as well as taking our own sideshow
games. This year it is on 30th June at Yateley Manor School.
We are part of Lions Clubs International (LCI), the largest voluntary community service
organisation in the world. Every penny we collect is spent on community projects. We support LCI
who regularly make disaster relief grants for local Lions Clubs across the world to use. LCI also
give many grants to help local projects as well as implementing major health-related projects.
